Psychological Adjustment and Its Relationship to the Level of Athletic Aspiration among Students of Physical Education and Sport Sciences

The importance of this research lies in identifying the relationship between psychological adjustment and the level of athletic aspiration among students of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, given their direct impact on students’ outcomes. Psychological factors play a vital role in achieving goals, as they influence students’ academic performance in addition to contributing to the execution of technical and tactical tasks. The research aims to identify the level of both psychological adjustment and athletic aspiration among the study sample, as well as to determine the relationship between them.
The researcher adopted the descriptive method using the survey approach, as it is suitable for the nature of the research problem. The research population consisted of third-year morning-class students at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Tikrit University, totaling (120) students. The research sample included (49) male and female students, representing (41%) of the original population. Psychological adjustment and athletic aspiration scales were employed to obtain and process the results.
One of the main findings of the research was the existence of a significant positive correlation between psychological adjustment and the level of athletic aspiration among students of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. The researcher recommended the necessity of paying attention to the psychological aspect through counseling sessions aimed at enhancing students’ psychological adjustment, as well as organizing training courses and involving students in them to raise their level of aspiration. Additionally, it was recommended to conduct similar studies on other activities and age groups.
